How do you unscrew the back caliper bolts for a 2002 mustang?

How do you unscrew the back caliper bolts for a 2002 mustang. These bolts don't seem to budge. I am trying to change the back brake pads and rotors. I have done the front brakes before and had no problems. Is there a trick I do not know about for the back brakes. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. The car is 2002 ford mustang V6 automatic coupeHow do you unscrew the back caliper bolts for a 2002 mustang?
the caliper bolts might have seized... should be some 10 or 13 mm head bolts... but try some penetrent like PB MAX to try and loosen it up first

Also you will need a tool to retract the caliper as the parking brake is part of the caliperHow do you unscrew the back caliper bolts for a 2002 mustang?

pushing the piston back in, takes a special tool, then you need to turn the piston clockwise and push at the same time, and as you turn they slowly go in

95 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 Can I hav ur take on bleeding the brake system? And do u blead all or two?

I recently changed out my front brake pads and rotors. Now I need to bleed the brakes, do I blled all four, and the master? Someone told me just the front two!? Doesn't sound right to me, And how do u bleed the master, On my 95 Dodge Ram.95 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 Can I hav ur take on bleeding the brake system? And do u blead all or two?
The easiest way is to buy some speedy bleed bleeder screws and install in your calipers. this will allow you to do it with one person. Then you would want to remove fluid from master cyl until about 1/4 full, fill with new fluid and bleed wheel farthest from MC first working your way to the closest. usually RR, LR, RF, LF. It's a little more technical with two people, if you don't want to use speedy bleeders. Timing and finesse are usually required, and usually goes like this: Pump pedal to build pressure, hold medium pressure, open bleeder screw, as the person depressing the pedal gets close to the floor they shout and you close the bleeder screw. It's best not to depress the pedal all the way. 3/4 travel is best. keep doing it till you see clean new fluid or if the fluid already looks clean pump a pint through for each rear and a half pint for each front. be sure to keep the reservoir full or you can pump air in. then it turns into a headache. this will bleed the master cyl, lines and calipers, but not the abs system if equipped. The master cylinder only needs to be bench bleed when it has been removed from the vehicle or it is new. And as dodge man said the gravity bleed is good too, almost fool proof, but takes along time. You just open the bleeder screw and let it slowly drip, then close the bleeder. with gravity feed i have done two wheels at once. rears at the same time, and fronts at the same time. be sure to keep an eye on that fluid level. No matter what any one says, you should replace your fluid every time you do your brakes. If you do that, pads and fluid are the only things you will have to replace.95 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 Can I hav ur take on bleeding the brake system? And do u blead all or two?
when i do these i gravity bleed them, its slower but better method of doing this,i just open a bleeder up and start from the farthest wheel from the master cylinder,it is best to bleed all 4 wheels on them, this will also bleed out the master cylinder also on it,or you can have some one help you and pump bleed them, either way works on them, good luck with it.95 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 Can I hav ur take on bleeding the brake system? And do u blead all or two?
if ya did not open the system ya shouldn't have to,,but if yer going to do it start at the rear right bleeder, next the left rear, then the right front ,then the left front95 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 Can I hav ur take on bleeding the brake system? And do u blead all or two?
As long as you didn't touch the rears, they should be fine. I have gotten away with only bleeding one axle. However, it doesn't hurt to bleed all four to make sure there is no air in the line. Whenever I bleed brakes, I do a gravity bleed first, then manually bleed them. To do this: take the cover off your master cylinder, and open all your bleeder screws. Fluid will travel down the lines and force all the air out at the bleeders. Do not let the master cylinder go empty during this process. When no more ait comes out, close the bleeders. Have someone get in the driver's seat and push on the pedal while you open the bleeder screw at one wheel. Have them push the pedal, you open the bleeder, let fluid/air come out, close the bleeder, and have the assistant let off the pedal. Do this until no more air comes out of the bleeder. Repeat this process for each wheel, starting with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder:Right Rear, Left Rear, RIght Front, Left Front. If you do it right, you'll get all the air out of the system and you brakes will work fine. Hope this helps.

My 2002 Impala LS (sport package) has warped rotors. How bad is this problem?

When I檓 driving about 50 mph and I step on the brakes my steering wheel shakes.

I檓 not sure which of the 2 rotors are warped. They檙e still factory rotors. Is it a good idea to resurface these? About how much would it costs 2 resurface them or 2 replace them? Is getting them from a salvage yard a good idea? I know when I fix them I should change my brakes as well! Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks. My 2002 Impala LS (sport package) has warped rotors. How bad is this problem?
You can get new rotors from Auto Zone for about $20 each, and a new set of pads for another $15-$30 depending on which grade you get, so why not just replace them. If you have the rotors resurfaced this will run about half the cost of new ones, and if your rotors are worn down beyond the safe thickness they can't be turned anyway. Don't get rotors from a junkyard, because you would have to have them resurfaced before you could use them, and you might get one that was in a wreck and cracked. Not knowing this you could get killed from wrecking you car. It is just not a good idea. I would get new pads, and new rotors, and have some piece of mind knowing you have dependable brakes.

Glad I could help, Good Luck!!!My 2002 Impala LS (sport package) has warped rotors. How bad is this problem?
If they are warped then you have to replace them. New rotors are not very expensive so there no reason to take the risk of buying any from a junk yard.My 2002 Impala LS (sport package) has warped rotors. How bad is this problem?
If the rotors were NOT cut yet, then they can be resurfaced, if they were cut already there may not be enough metal there to shave off from the previous cut, then you will need new rotors, I would'nt get any from a %26quot;BONE YARD%26quot;, brakes, tires, and wheels should NOT be gotten from a junk yard, too risky, always buy those parts new.My 2002 Impala LS (sport package) has warped rotors. How bad is this problem?
99% sure it's the fronts.

I agree with music, buy new rotors. Call around to the different places in your area. Autozone online showed one for $25.99. If you use new ones, buy a can of brake cleaner, since you must clean the coating off of them before installation.

Yours could be turned for at least 10 bucks a piece.

Junk yard rotors could be warped too, you can't tell by looking at them. Might be a waste of money. My 2002 Impala LS (sport package) has warped rotors. How bad is this problem?
where I live it costs $8 to turn rotors. But if they are warped then I would recommend getting new ones. For the impala they are about $28 a piece at Napa. Do not get salvage yard rotors. Spend the little extra and get new ones. I just did a 2003 monte carlo pretty much the same car as far as the brakes are concerned it cost me $18 for the set of pads and $28per rotor. I just did the front. Total bill was $80. That is just parts if you are taking them somewhere to have done add about $100 to that price.

  • Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???

I have a 2000 firebird (v6) warped rear disc brakes. Also, how important is it to bleed the brakes. On my 90's camaro I never bled them and never had a problem. Please help me out.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
no the rotors should come right off. if you don't open up the hydraulic part of the brake system you shouldn't have to bleed them.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
Damn!! I should know this answer, I learned it in class today. My guess is since your replacing the pads and rotors you might as well replace the bearings, I think you have to replace the bearings every 30,000 miles.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
normally, I clean them and inspect them .any, I say any ,mark I replace them ,otherwise they are good. re grease them(repack) and install them.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
no, no bearing removal is required, but check for lateral movement, and as far a brakes go no bleeding is not required unless you breach the system,Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
once you get the brake calipers off the rotors will come right off, you won't have to remove any bearings. The brake fluid should by all rights be flushed out every couple of years as moisture gets into the brake system and can cause havock with the ABS system.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
basically speaking.. u should not have to replace the bearing on a rear disc brake assembly, it depends on if u have a top hat design or integral design.. if u have top hat then u just pull off the rotor and replace the rotor and put on the caliper and wheel and such.. also.. bleeding your brakes is very important because your brakes absorb water because they are hygroscopic.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
no...you will not need to change wheel bearings....although if you are going to have the rotors off anyway, you may want to. your brakes should not have to be bled after replacing rotors and pads.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
You will have to remove the bearing to get the rotor off.Pack the bearing with grease before you put them back. You shouldnt have to bleed the brakes.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
on gm the bearing is seperate from the disc.just change the pads and rotors, like you would do on the front.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
No. you don't need to replace them. The bearing almost never goes bad and usually last the lifetime of your car. Replace it if you hear noise from it, like it is not lubricated. Bled the brake only if you remove the tube that goes to the wheel and you lost some oil (on the floor). Usually, to replace a brake, do not unscrew the oil pipe. Before you remove the rotor, insert a crew driver between the pads and push the piston inside the caliper. The pads came loose and with enough space to insert a new ones.Changing rear Rotors and pads. Will I have to change/remove bearings???
A fire bird is rear wheel drive, so you would have to take apart the rearend and remove the axels to replace the bearings. So, you just need to leave that alone. The brakes are pretty straight forward. Pull off the rotors and slide new ones on. rear calipers usually need to be turned in, not pushed in like front calipers. look at your piston face ( the part that pushes on the pad) You should see 2 to 4 indents on the outer edge. these are engaged by a special tool used to turn them in. I've used channel locks as a last resort. Be careful not to rip the boots. You can probably rent a rear piston pusher at autozone. If you dont open the brake line you will not need to bleed them, but it is a good idea to bleed out the old fluid once in awhile to keep it fresh because it does absorb moisture from the air.

New front Brakes and Rotors, Why are they rubbing together constantly?

I have a 03 Saturn L200. After changing the front Brakes and Rotors went for a quick ride to see how they worked I immediatley was getting this rubbing sound. I am not sure if it is just that the brake pads need to wear a little with the new rotors or If we made a mistake or we were given the wrong parts but it is quite noisy and it is constant. I have driven roughly 10 miles since the new ones were put on. The Brakes work fine but its just when I am driving I am pretty sure the Brake pads ,because they are new a re rubbing against the rotors.

Anyone experience this or have any idea what the problem could be?New front Brakes and Rotors, Why are they rubbing together constantly?
the only thing I can think of is the calipers are sticking a little and not pulling back far enough, just guessing.New front Brakes and Rotors, Why are they rubbing together constantly?
Since there new wait a week or so they will grind down sometimes the factory's make them ever so slightly big. and they will rub. but they will grind down after a while.

it takes an average of 100 miles to wear in. give or take.New front Brakes and Rotors, Why are they rubbing together constantly?
They are supposed to be in constant contact, but quiet. If it's older your caliper could be sticking and misaligning the pads. I would take it apart and check things out. Make sure there's no crud stuck on the pads. Check the condition of the caliper slides. If they're pitted or not smooth it will wreak havoc. You shouldn't hear anything. A little squeal when applying brakes is normal when new pads heat up and glaze too quickly but sounds like something different in your case. Make sure a pad isn't in backwards.New front Brakes and Rotors, Why are they rubbing together constantly?
well you need to make sure you were given the right pads. if theyre wrong and are thicker than the correct pads, theyll rub. it could be that your caliper is sticking. could be that the pads were not put on straight (level) so one corner of them is rubbing the rotor. there are so many possibilities, its tough to tell exactly. brake pads should NEVER need to %26quot;wear a little%26quot;. start by making sure you were given the right pads and rotors once you confirm that...mechanic? sorry.New front Brakes and Rotors, Why are they rubbing together constantly?
I would jack up the car and re-check your work.Make sure the brake calipers are not sticking, and ALL the caliper and rotor hardware is properly installed (slider pins or wedges, anti rattle clips, caliper bolts, etc).Make sure the rotors are properly seated on the hubs also.

How bad is a brake job (pads and rotors) on a 2007 GMC Yukon Denali... I got a quote for $1100 but I can buy the pads and rotors for $288 and do them myself, its been a few years since ive done brakes on my own and ive never done a dual piston setup, anything special? anyone memorize enough to give me a step by step? thanks! How to change front and rear brakes on %26039;07 Yukon Denali?
Nah nothing special, take the wheel off, take the caliper off, remove the old brake pads, remove the caliper braket.. now the hard part is to take the rotor off cuz it might be rusty and wont come off that easy... if there 2 screws then use an impact screw driver to get them off, if there are 2 holes, then you just need 2 get 2 bolts and screw them in to push the rotor out... then use a C-Clamp to push the pistons back in so that you can put it over the new pads, have funHow to change front and rear brakes on %26039;07 Yukon Denali?

    Question about changing brakes?

I was following directions from an Edmunds website, and one paragraph said this...

The rotor is that shiny metal disc staring you in the face right now. You can almost see your reflection, right? Get your eyes level with it. If you can't see your face, or at least its general outline, it may mean that the disc needs servicing or replacement. Below, we'll show you how to check this disc for scoring or marring, and what to do about that.

If my rotor is covered in brake dust, will I still be able to see my reflection?

Does a LOT of brake dust mean its time to change my breaks?Question about changing brakes?
A rotor that has been used on a vehicle will be very shiny. There should not be enough brake dust on the rotor to hide your reflection.

If the brake pad lining appears to be the thickness of a 3.5 disc or less, you should replace them.

I would also recommend taking your rotors in and having them checked for thickness and to see if they can be turned, if they are thick enough I would suggest having them machined.

A new rotor or a resurfaced rotor will have a dull silver color associated with them, you will not be able to see a reflection of anything in them.Question about changing brakes?
how thick are the break pads if there are thin then replace themQuestion about changing brakes?
When servicing the breaks, the rotors should always be machined or replaced. Most shops charge (IF you bring the rotor TO THEM) 4$ per rotor to machine them back to flat.

Brake dust is irrelivant if the rotors and pads are in good condition and you don't hear any squeaks or grinding.

If you have no idea what you're doing, please have your brakes done by a professional, I'd prefer to NOT be rear-ended by a do-it-yourselfer.Question about changing brakes?
No, a lot of brake dust doesn't have to mean it's new brake time. Buy some brake cleaner to remove the dust and look at the pads... if the liner is worn to the metal %26quot;screech tab%26quot; then it is time to replace, otherwise, just spray them clean and re-assemble.Question about changing brakes?
You can wipe off the brake dust. Just don't breathe it in. As for if you need to change your brakes, if the rotors feel perfectly smooth to the touch then they're likely okay, providing they're not worn down below the minimum thickness. Brake service centers and most garages have the specifications on minimum thickness for various types of rotors -- and the tools and know-how to measure them. If they're too thin the rotors are not strong enough and they can overheat, warp, crack or even snap off under heavy braking. (Which means you then have NO brakes on that wheel and the car can spin -- especialy on a slippery road surface.)

If the rotors are grooved on the surface they need to be either machined smooth again or replaced with new ones. Again, sometimes they can't be machined because they will have to be shaved down too thin and then they're not safe anyway.

Brake pads. If they're getting down anywhere near eighth of an inch or so they are dangerously low and should be replaced pronto. One sudden stop can strip off the last of the pad material and then it's metal on metal and that's bad news indeed. They won't work right, they'll screech like all get-out, and they'll get so hot you can actually weld a brake pad backing plate to a rotor. Not kidding, okay? Big bucks to repair if you don't crash beforehand.

If you have any doubts at all about whether your brakes are up to scratch or not, take your car to experts and let them have the responsibility of putting things right if needs be. Remember it's not just if they look okay, those rotors must be within the safety tolerance or they can fail very suddenly.

Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads?

I got an oil change today and the shop said I have 1mm of brake pads left and I should probably replaces the Rotors as well b/c the rotors from the car factory (I have a fairly new car) are junk and should be replaced, Also I was wondering how much one would think is reasonable to pay for the replacement of these, I have an 06 Chrysler pt cruiser, thanks.Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads?
The rotors for your PT Cruiser (assuming it's a 2.4L non-turbo model) are 23 mm thick, and that includes the vents in between the braking surfaces. The minimum discard thickness is 21.4 mm. This is the thinnest that a shop can legally machine your rotors down to, and put them back on your car. That's a difference of 1.6 mm, or about 63 thousandths of an inch (1/16th). Given that rotors get thinner as they're used on the car, and then it usually takes a minimum machining of 10-15 thousandths of an inch per side to get them even again, it may very well end up being difficult to do so without going past the legal limit.

This is the case with many modern vehicles. Older cars used to have rotors with a difference between the new and discard thickness more along the lines of 120 thousandths of an inch. That's probably what the mechanic meant when they said they were %26quot;junk%26quot;. They're pretty much good for one set of pads, and then you need to throw them away. And the thickness of brake rotors are very easy to measure while on the car, without doing anything except taking the wheel off. They are measured with a special micrometer, which any mechanic worth his salt has in his tool box.Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads?
When they say, %26quot;The factory rotors are junk, buy ours,%26quot; they're just trying to make a sale. However, rotors do need to be replaced when they become too worn, which normally can't be determined without some special equipment to analyze the surface. Take it to a brake place, not an oil change place, for a better opinion.Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads?
The rotor should be replaced when they are worn beyond limits. A %26quot;probably should%26quot; is not sufficient for me. I just got a car inspected in Maryland a month ago and the guy told me the rotors are close to the end. They were within limits so he had to pass them and there's nothing wrong with running with rotors that are worn. Besides instead of telling me somethings junk without measuring it and telling me whats left is poor business and I decline to go back to that place.

Pt Cruiser-Go on to a program like rock.auto.com if you want an example what a rotor will cost. Rotors for this beast are pretty expensive.Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads?
the rotors dont have to be replaced as long as they are still with in spec. usually rotors can be turned to resurface them. there is however a minimum thickness spec that if turning the rotors would bring them in under the spec, then they need to be replaced.Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads?
Only if they are worn or you feel pulsing or vibrating when you push the brakes. Rotors from the factory are not junk. You do not need racing grade rotors for a PT Cruiser or for most of the newer cars on the street today.Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads?
No they don't have to be replaced unless they are scored real bad. You can have them turned at least once before you have to replace them.Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads?

How long a Toyota celica would last?

I have a 1998 toyota celica that has about 140K on it so far. Last month I ran into a problem that turns out to be the pressure plate need to be replaced.

The repair cost is around 1K. Plus I have to change the shocks, brakes, rotors, very soon.

Is it worth it? should I keep maintaining this car or should start looking for something else? How long a Toyota celica would last?
My father still owns a 1980 Toyota Celica GT that had rolled the odometer five times. It was a five digit odometer, so that equates to roughly 500,000 miles.

I owned a 1991 Toyota Celica GT with 270,000 miles, it had the same engine your '98 has. I sold it in running condition. It doesnt matter if its a Celica, a Corolla, A Supra, or an MR2. Toyotas last, plain and simple. And they are worth every penny you put into them. How long a Toyota celica would last?
You should maintain the car. You'll have some headaches from time to time, just like your pressure plate, but with proper maintenance, your Celica will last as long as you want it to. Just look around on eBay. You'll find Celicas sometimes that have over 300,000 miles and are still running great.

The biggest reason that you should maintain the car though is just because of cost. Sure, things are going to break as your car gets older, but your car has a lot of life in it, and no matter what, driving a car that is paid for is a better financial choice just because you are only paying maintenance costs, not maintenance and a car payment. How long a Toyota celica would last?
I think it's still worth it, there are Celica's on ebay that have 60-100K more miles on them than yours selling as working or some freak %26quot;suddenly stopped working%26quot; problem.

Either way it's the best looking Celica ever made and I'd hate to see someone get rid of it over a pressure plate and brakes. How long a Toyota celica would last?
if you dont drive it like a dumbass and have the oil and filters changed regularly the engine will last forever but you'll always have maintenance on anything alot of miles for any toyoto is around 240 - 280,000 best of luck

How to convert 4 lugs to 5lugs on honda civic ex 05 coupe?

I have a honda civic 05ex coupe and I want to convert 4 lugs pattern to 5 lugs pattern. I don't know what parts should i get to do it, and I also want to change the front rotor brakes and rear brake ( my rear brakes are drum and I want to convert it into brake rotor). Can you guys help me out with this?

thankzHow to convert 4 lugs to 5lugs on honda civic ex 05 coupe?
1 get a wheelbarrow full of money! 2 If you are lucky you might find a Honda with 5 lug wheels, - you then might be able to pull hubs off and change out with stock parts! Or you might be able to buy adapters at auto parts store (or custom wheel shop)! This will cost you plenty! For non drive wheels you can change hubs, -- but you need to find one at junkyard (preferably) that has disc brakes on back and buy all the stuff needed to remove drum brakes and backing plates and install lines that go with disc brakes! Then you have problem of parking brake, which has to have all the conversion stuff to to work!

When you get finished with that, all you have to do is get master cylinder for disc brakes, (for all 4 wheels), change anti skid brake parts (if so equipped) and possibly %26quot;shuttle valve that shuts off fluid flow should one %26quot;end %26quot; of car have brake leak, and then I guess you are ready to go!

Possibly you can buy conversion kit for disc brakes at a%26quot;speed shop/custom car supply%26quot; place for somewhere around $900-1000! They also might have adapters to bolt on. but this will make your wheels sit out about 1 1/2%26quot; probably - so you might need %26quot;deep dish%26quot; wheels to go that way!

To me it would be unwarranted expense, as only about 1/3 of braking goes to rear wheels! And if you are going to %26quot;play competition%26quot; you will probably tear car up and ruin it in short order anyway!

But then what do I know!! I have only been fixing cars since I was 9,---which is almost 60 years ago!How to convert 4 lugs to 5lugs on honda civic ex 05 coupe?
The lugs are part of the %26quot;brake-rotor%26quot;How to convert 4 lugs to 5lugs on honda civic ex 05 coupe?
The lugs are mounted in the hub assembly of each wheel, the key is finding 5 lug hubs which have the same size bearing mounting shaft as the 4 lug hubs which you have. once you locate a set of the proper hubs you will have to obtain rotors to match, Brake caliper mounts to match the rotors (front and rear) which may require replacement of the knuckles in the front and will certainly require modifications to the rear spindle supports to mount the rear calipers. This is not going to be a simple swap a few pieces operation - your best bet will be to find a disk brake equipped rear %26quot;axle%26quot; assembly from a similar car so you have all the pieces in one assembly then find a really good welder who you can persuade ($$$) to perform non dot approved modifications to your machine. If you are reasonable lucky on the parts locating side of this you might get it accomplished for less than 2 or 3 thousand dollars. How to convert 4 lugs to 5lugs on honda civic ex 05 coupe?
WHY would you want to do this? It would be very expensive for no benefit whatsoever.

    Change brakes or not?

hi, I bought some brakes for my 92 toyota paseo, but today just to make sure I should put some new ones on, I went to my local mechanic that has worked on my car for about 6 years, and he looked through my rims and said that it looked like I still had 60% life in my brakes, but about 2 minutes ago hs assistant said 40%, but the guy who said 60% is the main mechanic(the smarter one). How can they tell I have that much left, I barely see a small gab in between the rotor and the caliper. Should I change them, or not, I only drive around 6,000 miles per year, and my brakes are not making any odd sound and work great.Change brakes or not?
Are they still the original pads? If you have less than 3/32 of an inch left, then you should replace them. Or if you are close to that since you have everything apart. Otherwise, you should be fine.Change brakes or not?
You can easily see how much pad is left. It's also easier than you think to change pads in you garage with basic tools so don't let them charge too much. I can change nine in about 10 minutes per side including jacking up the car. It should take a shop half that. Also most pads have a little clip on them that will rub on the rotor when its time to change. You'll hear a little squeak when you step n the break.Change brakes or not?
    nope.Change brakes or not?
First of all, there shouldn't be a %26quot;need%26quot; for you to change your pads even if there was 40% left. And if you can't or won't look through the rim or take the rim off to see the amount of pad wear left (3/32%26quot; is as thin as it should get), then wait until you hear the tell-tale sign of the squeaking from the wear indicators on your brake pads everytime you apply the brakes.

I'd keep the pads you've purchased and then save some more of your money up for a %26quot;real%26quot; brake job: One that includes new discs and/or drums, new wheel bearings/grease and maybe some new guide pins.

  • Changing brake pads?

I am in the middle of changing the rear brake pads on my 98 Grand Prix. I've never done this before but viewed an online how to video. I can't get the caliper off. I've taken off the bolts just fine so it should now be free. I can move it an inch each way around the rotor. But just not out and off the rotor. I can't see inside very well. Does the little metal clamp that squeaks when your pads get thin need to be removed first? There is quite a bit of rust on the edge of the rotors. Can I just hit the caliper lightly with a rubber mallet?Changing brake pads?
if you have the pins out and can move it just hit it with a hammer and knock it the rest of the way.. but let me ask did you try pushing back the pinton with a big screwdriver first ... and you can use a real hammer you can beat the crap out of them things.... if yo ucan move it some i bet if you was to pry it back some with a screwdrive it would fall offChanging brake pads?
You might try releasing your emergency brakes and then trying to remove the calipers.

Yes you can tap on your calipers. Just strike them on the ends aways from any bolt holes or anything else fragile.Changing brake pads?
Try taking the cap off the brake fluid reservoir to allow the pads to spread further but make sure you surround it with rags in case it overflows. Buy some brake fluid in case you need to replace some. Double check to make sure there is not a pin or bolt you missed. Autozone.com has online repair guides for free if you register. No you should not have to remove the squeaker but it might help to bend it out of the way or remove it. Yes it is OK to use rubber mallet but you should not have to.Changing brake pads?
    Heres what's going on:

The brake pads wear away, and also wear the rotor away. As the rotor gets thinner the caliper pushes more and more in. Sometimes if you let the brakes go too long it also starts to wear grooves into the pads and rotors. These parts all wear together in a pattern. you need to get the caliper to open up some more. You can use all kinds of things to do this. You can use a sturdy flathead screw driver to pry between the caliper piston and the back of the brake pad that touches the piston, you can use a %26quot;c%26quot; clamp. All kinds of ways. But you need to get that caliper to open up. YOu need to get that caliper piston to go in a little so that you can get the assembly to come off...its hanging on by the pattern its worn into the pads/rotor. Like the dude said, you can take off the resevoir cap, make sure your emergency brake is off, etc.

How do you take the rotor of a dodge carvan front?

what is the best way to change the brakes and rotor on a dodge carvanHow do you take the rotor of a dodge carvan front?
Start by removing a wheel(1/4 or 19mm. lug nuts). Remove the 10mm. or may be 13mm. bolt from the caliper. Use a straight screwdriver to pry off caliper. Press the caliper piston back into the caliper with channel locks or a C clamp. Reason for only taking 1 caliper off at a time is so the other caliper piston does not come out of the caliper when pressing 1 piston back (pushing fluid to the other side). It's also normal for fluid to come out the master cylinder. You may have to spray lubricant of the rotor and beat the rotor off. Once off you could put antisieze on the spindle, disc brake quiet on the pads(can buy at auto store). Rotor may come off easier next service with anti seize on spindle. Lube all slides and reverse directions to put back together. Good luck! How do you take the rotor of a dodge carvan front?
take the calipers off, beat the heck out of the rotors, till they come off, then put the new ones on.. just remember to push the caliper piston back in, before you put the new pads on...How do you take the rotor of a dodge carvan front?
if you have front disc brakes and its like a dodge ram theni can help. first off get a allen wrench or a socket type that is 3/8 and remove the bolts holding on the calipers. next find a place for the calipers to rest while you work. dont let them hang there. next remove the cotter pin on the outside of rotor. next remove the rotor will prolly require some beating with a rubber mallet or dead blow. next take the wheel bearing grease seal out of the back side of the rotor and remove the bearings. next repack the bearings and place in new rotor. put on new wheel bearing grease seal. the reverse the order of operations used to remove. now take a c-clamp and push the piston back in the caliper. install new pad and place caliper over rotor. install bolts. and your done. oh the best thing to do is to go to a auto parts store and buy the haynes manual.

How do you change rear drum brakes to disk on a Nissan Sentra?

I have a 1992 Nissan Sentra XE (four door), and I want to change the stock drum brakes on the rear to disk brakes. I would also like to change the rotors in the front to bigger ones. What all do I need to do? I don't need an exact answer for my car, just the basic steps for converting drum brakes to disk.

Right now its FWD, so it doesn't even have power going back there, but I still want disk brakes. I am planning on doing an engine swap, and making it RWD, but that's a whole other animal. How do you change rear drum brakes to disk on a Nissan Sentra?
Your money would be best spent on a car less than 18 years old. That said everything is different from the master Cly to the rear parking brake cables and hydraulic hoses and tubing.. It could get costly quickly. I know only anti lock brake sentra had disks rear the 1994 year model. You could get used parts out of a autorecyclers yard. They don't like being called junk yards. I have never seen a rear wheel drive sentra conversion. If you want a 350Z get one it would be cheaper and performance parts will be available. Good LuckHow do you change rear drum brakes to disk on a Nissan Sentra?
I have to totally agree with John Paul...These are some ambitious and potentially expensive mods for that old car. As much as I like Nissan and agree they can run and run you gotta worry if or when the rust will start.... The biggest killer of these cars is not mechanical but body cancer....I would drive it the way it is and save your money...If your heart is set on the rear wheel drive consider a Z car--if you like the Sentra a R or Spec V are what is in your future.

How do you change the rear brakes on a 2005 Ford Freestar?
Use a pair of needle nose pliers and you turn the pistons back in to the caliper. If I remember correctly it's clockwise that you turn them. if the dust boot is not in the way you can use some channel locks but be very careful when using the channel locks as you can crack the piston. Then you will be forced to replace the caliper. How do you change the rear brakes on a 2005 Ford Freestar?
two way or more to do it i always have used a big screwdriver before removing any bolt or pins and pry on the brake pads a bit.. if it dont move try releasing the bleeder while prying it. if that dont get it go a head and remove it and try a big c clamp... but look inside at piston if there is notches then its a screw type piston and you have to rent a tool to screw it back in it should just push back in.. should be kind of like this

  • Cost of changes all four brakes on isuzu trooper 1994?

I have this sinking feeling I paid to much to replace brakes on my Isuzu and that the may have damaged my car sensors in the processor. Prior to fixing brakes there was no anti lock light going off now there is. That the first sinking feeling

I much does it cost to change brakes plus the rotors

Does any know how much to get new anti lock pump installed in an Isuzu where can I find the part

I am so upset I went to have my brakes done and and now the anti lock light is . I dont trust people could he have take out the anti lock pump and replaced it with a faulty one?????????I mean how to you go in for one thing and the other thing just suddenly go when prior to going in no anti lock light was on

Hope someone has an answerCost of changes all four brakes on isuzu trooper 1994?
The most probable cause is if they replaced the rotors they may have put the wrong rotors on. antilock brakes have to have special rotors, the other thing is they may have had to disconnect one of the wires on one of the wheels which would cause the light to come on, so don't panic take it back and tell them it was ok untill they worked on it, it is most likey a simple problem, wrong rotors or a unplugged antilock connector on a wheel most likely a simple mistake. and When the antilock brake light does come on then what happens it goes into limp in mode meaning the brakes lock up instead of just pulseing on and off 60 times a second. If the pedal feels solid and is about halfway up thebrakes are fine just a goof up if they are spongy they did not get it to bleedwhen they replaced the brakes in which case power bleeding will fix the problem. In any cace take it back and tell them they should make it good if they don't sue them in small claims court but most mechanics will want to make it right they can't survive for long screwing people over. As for price if you have to replace the rotor they cost about $60.00 each this is an average and brake pads can run $40.00 dollars for 2 year pads. So about $70.00 per wheel, if they need to have seals replaced and wheels repacked it can cost an addtional $20.00 per wheel, depending on your area you live in. don't stress go talk to them politely it is probly something simple and they won't charge you. If they give you static then take it to another shop and have it checked out and go to court if the new mechanic tells you thery screwed up. But most likely it's just a easy fix or a unplugged wheel sensor.Cost of changes all four brakes on isuzu trooper 1994?
the time to remove the pump and bleed it is not worth the money they would get to rip you off. they would just say they needed to replace the muffler bearing or something like that. did you get it fixed?

    I need Car Tuner help?

I have a 2008 ford fusion and i plan on changing a number of things on the car, first i will start with H%26amp;R coilovers, then change my brake rotors along with the brake pads. Then i will be installing a rear and front sway bars and also a new 3d Carbon body kit, and i will be installing a front wind splitter from ADR design. Last but not least a SCT cailbrator and new air intake, along with a new set of Vossen wheels 20 inches, my question and problem....possibly, are the wheels, they weight 30 pounds and im worried they are gona to offset the work im doing to the car. The current 16 inch wheels on my car weight in at 22 pounds, finally my question is does anyone know if the wheels are really going to bring down my performance? If so how bad? by the way i have a i4 engine, 2.3 L. I dont wana spend money on forged wheels, but any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks AllI need Car Tuner help?
Someone has been watching too many Fast and Furious movies.

All the mods that you are choosing to do are not going to make the car any faster. It is all for looks. Let me break it down for you.

The coilovers, rotors and sway bars will make the car handle better, but it will not make it any faster.

The windsplitter will not do anything to help you unless you are going over 120mph, which I bet is the top speed of that car anyway. So that thing is useless.

The cold air intake and SCT Tune might....MIGHT.... give you 15-20 horsepower. Maybe.

The carbon fiber body kit is not going to do anything but piss you off. Aftermarket body kits never fit the car properly and break very easily.

Now to the rims. Good luck getting 20 inch rims to fit on the car with coilovers. 20s are the biggest wheels that will fit on that car. However, if you put coil overs on then you will certainly end up lowering the car. If you do that, then you will not be able to fit the 20s on there unless you set the ride height of the car back to stock thus defeating the purpose of all the suspension mods that you did.

Will the wheels hurt your performance...yes. The added weight will slow the car down....slightly. You won't be able to feel it. It will be the equivalent to losing about 3 horsepower. Those big wheels will also make the car handle worse and will offset all the suspension modifications you did. I would not go with anything bigger than an 18 inch rim.I need Car Tuner help?

How do i get the rotors off a 1996 chevy caprice?

I am in the middle of changing the brakes on a 1996 chevy caprice. Grease cap, cotter pin needs to be removed. Large nut on spindle needs to be removed. It would be best to buy a cheap manual if your going to do the job yourself. If you doubt your ability to do this job, then do NOT.

The entire wheel with rotor could fall off if you make a mistake when reinstalling the rotor. Better safe than sorry. How do i get the rotors off a 1996 chevy caprice?
    1)remove the caliper

    2) remove the dust cap in the center of the rotor.

    3) take out the cotter pin

    4) unscrew the hex nut and pull out the outer wheel bearing

    5) after that pull the rotor and hub assy off the spindle

6)Then remove the inner brg and seal

    7) turn or replace rotor and reverse the procedure.........md

Are Autozone's Premium-Ceramic Brake-Pads as Good as what Came in my 2000 Z28?!?

I have 57k mi on my Z28. Yes, they are the Original Pads!! %26lt;:^D

    (Highway Miles, Obviously!!)

I have Noticed that Recently they feel a little Different. No Squealing yet, but the Rotors look like the Area where the Pads Normally Rub appears abit smaller.

I know I should Change the Pads here this Spring, and I know how to do it.

But, where should I go to get New Pads, that will Last as Long as the Factory Pads did?!?

I am Aware that they are Probably Ceramic Pads, but the GM Dealer charges INCREDIBLY TOO Much for me to Justify Buying from Them.

I have Changed Brake-pads for People, and have Personally found Ceramic-Pads to Last Longer on Cars. The Pads I get for People come from AutoZone.

I know that there are Expensive Brake-Pads out there that are around $100 a Set, but I am wondering if they are Worth it.

At AutoZone, the Premium-Ceramic Pads are $60 a Set for the Front.

So Ultimately, are the AutoZone Ceramic Pads as Good as what Came with my 2000 Camaro Z28?!? What do You Recommend I use in my Factory Calipers?!?Are Autozone%26039;s Premium-Ceramic Brake-Pads as Good as what Came in my 2000 Z28?!?
yes, the cerammic pads will last longer than your factory ones will. ive seen many with over 65,000 on them and we have a fleet of gm trucks. its all i use on them now. you'll be happy with autozones pads. i put them on both my vehicles too!! happy brakingAre Autozone%26039;s Premium-Ceramic Brake-Pads as Good as what Came in my 2000 Z28?!?
I would only use AC Delco pads. A possible exception would be Bendix. I know you buy stuff at Autozone, but aside from the Fel-Pro gaskets they sell, their parts have no where near the quality that AC Delco has. I would look online for your brake pads or through an independent parts house that sells AC Delco. If you end up going to the dealer, ask for 10% off. Tell them you're a loyal customer. You may pay more for the real deal, but the real deal will last longer, be quieter, provide less brake fade, and you won't have to change the pads as often. The extra money on Delco pads will be well spent.

Roughly how much should I expect to spend?I recently got new brakes and i just need my rotors on my 2003 saturn L200 replaced...how much would this cost
Well the rotors are $30 - $90 depending on the qualitly of the part desired.

But additionally when replacing a rotor it will require a new set of wheel bearings to be driven/pressed in and greased.

And the rear are (Ooooh Alot , if needed replacement) these are per wheel.

I hope you have a friendly mechanic .

Man thats a lot of money for this type of car repairs.

anywhere from $100.00 to $175.00 here in the Pittsburgh aeraI recently got new brakes and i just need my rotors on my 2003 saturn L200 replaced...how much would this cost
You really got ripped if you paid $400 and didn't get rotors turned or replaced. Take it back and demand they be fixed at no additional charge. I hope the $400 included all four wheels.I recently got new brakes and i just need my rotors on my 2003 saturn L200 replaced...how much would this cost
If you wanna do it your self you can most likely buy new rotors for about the same price as they will charge you to turn them so think about that before you go strait to having some one turn them. And get a second opinion about your rotors because i know i would have not let you left the shop if you really needed them. if they dont have grooves in them your mostlikly fine, although they could be warped but you would feel a pulsation in your pedal when you break if they were warped.

Midas said around $750, my mechanic expects around $700, a friend at work said he could do it for $400... Not sure what to do...How much should it cost on a 2002 Toyota Camry LE (4c/2.4L) to get both sets of brakes %26amp; front rotors changed?
At Autozone the pads run from $20-$55. Rear shoes=$17. Front rotors=$27-$58. The ranges are based on warranties. Change them yourself.

You'll need a jack and a socket set and either a c-clamp, or a large pair of channel locks.

Remove the front wheels, remove the bolts holding the calipers to the steering knuckle and suspend them from the struts with a wire or hanger. Pull the lock springs out of the thru-pins and remove the pins. Turn the inner pad around and collapse the piston using the c-clamp or channel locks.. Remove the old rotor and install the new one. They are what is known as floating rotors, meaning nothing but the calipers and the lug nuts hold them on. Put the new pads on the calipers in the reverse process of removing the old ones and slide the calipers over the rotors. Put the wheels back on and run the lug nuts down. Lower the vehicle so the wheel just take a little weight and torque the lugnuts down. Use about 75 foot pounds of torque. The nuts shouldn't turn easily.

The rears take a little more doing. Jack up the rear end and remove the wheels. There might be two big philips screws holding the drums on. Remove them if so. Make sure the parking brake is off. If the drums do not come off easily, use a hammer to help. Just hit the flat outside part a few times. It is usually rust between the bottom of the lug stud and the drum.

There are two big return springs between the shoes and the upper stud. Remove those. Then remove the hold down clamp. Push down and turn a quarter turn either direction to line the key up with the hold. Remove the clamp spring and rod. Remove the parking brake expander. Remove the adjuster and spring from the bottom. Collapse the adjuster some. Remove the parking brake cable from the rearward shoe. Leave the other side assembled so you can use it for reference. I would recommend having the drums turned at this time. Now reassemble using the other side as a guide. Taking pictures will also help. How much should it cost on a 2002 Toyota Camry LE (4c/2.4L) to get both sets of brakes %26amp; front rotors changed?
First thing you should do, is call a local parts store and ask them for prices on each part *brake pads/shoes *rotors *calipers if you are changing them etc. and once you have a price on the parts then you should find out what the labor rates at different garages are and see where you can get the best deal. Alot of garages will try to make you spend more then you have to, so make sure to find an honest garage or get your friend to do it (as long as this friend has a fair amount of experieince) because you dont want your brakes failing.

How much can I sell my car for that does not start?

I have a 1996 Honda Civic Dx Hatchba ck Midori Green! Its a rare car, honda only made it that color, for that model and that year. Everywhere I go people are always admiring the car and color and asking to buy. I wanted to sell it to get something newer and larger, but then it stopped working. The alternator went and ever since I got it changed the car would not start. I just want it off my hands. The body is in good condition, NO RUST watsoever, lovely car, 156K, comes with 5 rims, circuit city radio, just changed rotors, brakes, alternator and had the front axle done. How much do you think I can get for this car? I'm asking 2,000 for it, is that not a possibility? The blue book value is 3,080. I'm sure theres people who would fix this car up and race it (those hatchback honda lovers) or simply strip for parts for the same car (since its hard to find in that color).

I need to change all four of my rotors and pads on my nissan 200sx(1997). I was wondering if anyone had a step by step proceedure on completing this task. How do i change my brakes on a 1997 nissan 200sx??r=1224347178?

Agree with first poster. Also have another jack, don't rely on the one that comes with the car, and if you can, have access to another car so you can go to the store if the pads are the wrong ones/ you break something etc.

How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?

Honda dealership tells me my rear pads will need attention soon which I later found out is common with this model. Front pads still have 8mm. They just didnt specify how soon? One month? Next oil change? I only have 22,000 miles on this car and yes I think it is a bit premature to be repacing rear pads especially before the front but I want to make sure I dont wait too long and then have them tell me I need new rotors too!!!!!How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?
Hard to say without knowing how much you drive a day or what your braking habbits are...

Hold on a minute, let me get out my magic ball. How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?
Honestly your under the %26quot;limits%26quot; and need to just replace both now. it may seem stupid, but honestly it needs to be done before you warp the rotor or ruin the surface.

you do know that your front brakes do 90% of the braking while the rear only does 10% correct? if it was true 50/50 the rear brakes would lock up everytime you hit the brakes. on older cars that have disfunctional brake proportioning valves, the rear tires will lock up when you hit the brakes hard.

Just replace em before it ends up costing you more. and just a tip, if you turn the rotor while your there, the brake pads will last longer. just make sure the rotor is not at its minimal thickness. the people at autozone/napa will have a micrometer to measure the thickness to verify if it can be turned or not.How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?
22,000 miles is pretty early to be replacing brakes, but it really depends on your driving habits. We just did the brakes on my wife's car at 65,000 and it was just the front pads. There is no way to tell how long yours will last. An additional tip....take it to a good local brake shop for an inspection and a second opinion. I would not suggest going to Autozone or any similar parts store. The staff there are low paid people who know little about cars. All they know is how to sell parts. How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?
Honda considers 2 mm the time to replace brake pads. As for how many miles you have left, it depends on driving habits (like the others said), and how much city vs. highway driving, etc. You're OK for now but keep an eye on them.

How do you get the front caliper off of a 1998 Ford Mustang?

The title says it all...I need to change the brake pads and rotors...but I can't get the caliper off.How do you get the front caliper off of a 1998 Ford Mustang?
pull the wheel off,two bolts hold the caliper on,after u pull the caliper off,u can see the brake pads sitting in the caliper bracket,u can just pull those off,if u need to get to the rotors,u gotta take two more bolts out of the bracket, the rotor should just pull off or u might have to smack it with a hammer that is if its a pull of rotor,if its a rotor with wheel bearing in it u gotta take the dust cap off and take the nut off and along with the bearing, its fairly simple, hope that helps. How do you get the front caliper off of a 1998 Ford Mustang?
You'll need 1/2 inch metric sockets and a minimum of a 12 inch ratchet. If a 12 inch ratchet doesn't get the bolts loose on the caliper and caliper bracket get a 16%26quot; breaker bar. To collapse the caliper piston before trying to remove the caliper from the caliper bracket use a carpenters screw clamp or a monster c-clamp.How do you get the front caliper off of a 1998 Ford Mustang?
The calipers are held on by two bolts, the bolts have to come out of the caliper to come off that bracket. If you got that done and your having trouble getting the caliper off the rotor then you have to take some care and try to pry it off. The brake pads have worn down around the outer edge of the rotor and cant get passed a small lip that has built up there. Drain some brake fluid out of the caliper and see if that helps. That bracket has to come off, it might of had some lock-tite used on it. That will need some heat on it from a torch or a electric paint stripper to get the bolt loose.

How do i know when i have to replace my rotors?

I have a Honda Civic 04 DX with Discs in the front and drums in the back. I have changed the brake pads at 60K but I want more info on RotorsHow do i know when i have to replace my rotors?
The minimum machining limits on most Japanese vehicles (at least here in Japan) is inside the rotor itself. It must be removed in order to see it. It generally will say %26quot;Min 19mm%26quot;, or something similiar.

For some reason, people think you must machine or %26quot;turn%26quot; the rotors every brake change, which is untrue. Most rotors can only handle 2-3 turnings (depending on how much material is removed), while some specify no machining at all...simply replace. They should not need it unless they have been grooved, warped, or have some condition that makes if necessary.

Vibrations while braking (usually in the brake pedal itself) can indicate rotors that are out of round, a faulty caliper, or incorrectly adjusted rear drum brake(s). (YES..loose shoes that refuse to self-adjust can give similiar symptoms)

Measurements must be made with a micrometer in several places going towards the center of the rotor if possible. (Go with the smallest reading if it varies). Never with a set of calipers, which can only measure the widest point at the outer edge. (Not accurate, as the edges can flare slightly, and rust can throw off the reading). A wrench is ok in a pinch, like looking thru a junkyard for a decent replacement (if you go that route), but keep in mind, a 19 mm wrench measures slightly over 19 mm.. (.4mm or .015 in. wider) otherwise, to get it over a 19 mm nut, it would be a press fit.

Factory replacements can run a couple hundred dollars, but I'm sure you can find a quality replacement for much cheaper. I'm not familiar with your particular model, but generally Hondas only require tire removal, then brake caliper, and finally the two machine screws which hold the rotor snugly to the spindle to replace the rotor. (Most common with smaller bodied Hondas)

Some require a puller to remove the rotor from the hub bearing (much more expensive)..but, more common with larger models (Legends and Inspires etc..)

Hope this helps...How do i know when i have to replace my rotors?
You should always change them if there are any deep grooves in them. Otherwise, use a micrometer to determine their thickness and compare it to factory specs. How do i know when i have to replace my rotors?
take one into the nearest autoparts store and have them measure is the best way. Also there is a chamfer on the egde of a rotor look for it, if you do not see the chamfer you are getting really close and definately should have them measured. How do i know when i have to replace my rotors?
well when you changed your pads you were supposed to get them machined. they will tell you what kind of condition they are in. if you did get them resurfaced and they shake and feel different you probley will need some new ones. they are not very expensive and easy to changeHow do i know when i have to replace my rotors?
You can sometimes tell when you're braking, you'll feel and hear a light thudding sound every 1-2 seconds, which indicates uneven groove and wear. They can also be too thin, but you'll need a micrometer to check for this (standard width is 19mm, I believe).

Typically, a shop will re-groove them to smooth them out, but this can only be done 1-2 times, then you have to change the rotors.

A garage will give you an inspection for a small fee ($20-50) or an auto parts store will eyeball and measure them for you if you remove the tire. Cost for new pair is $150-250, depending on where you live. To replace will cost you about the same. Good luck! How do i know when i have to replace my rotors?
The minimum service limit for those rotors is 19mm. If there is no ridge on the outside of the rotor (you should have had them machined when you replaced your pads, so there should be no ridge). Try to fit a 19mm or 3/4 inch (the standard equivalent) open end wrench over the edge of the rotor. If it fits, your rotors are too thin and need to be replaced. You do not need to replace them to get rid of a brake pulse if there is still enough material to have them machined.

Brake rotors for a 2006 Dodge Ram 4x4 Quad Cab SLT?

I had new ones put on about 2 months ago because they were warped. I did not change the brake pads at that time because they looked good. Well, after these two months I have the same vibration when braking. How hard is it to replace the rotors myself when I replace the pads? I have done pads before and they are not that hard, but never attempted the rotors before? Too difficult compared to replacing the pads?

What tools/supplies do I need? I have sockets, wrenches, C-clamp for the caliper, etc? Anything special to do a brake job, particularly the rotors??

Thanks!!2006 Dodge Ram 4x4 Quad Cab SLT needs brakes and rotors?
Since You have a 4 wheel drive the front differential and braking systems are mated. You must remove the outer parts of the front drive train on each side first. Then the rotors will come off after the calipers.

Make sure the bearings have proper pre-load on installation. If you love your truck, bring it to us,( DEALER ). we could use the work. Plus you will be able to bring it somewhere if you have the same problems in the future. Good luck. There will always be a Chrysler/Dodge place. Ther may not be as many.2006 Dodge Ram 4x4 Quad Cab SLT needs brakes and rotors?
That's an issue that is better taken to the dealer than attempting to do it yourself. There are MANY MANY inferior brake parts sold in the auto parts stores. Cheep rotors from China will cause you more issues than paying the dealer for the correct parts.

also, if you know how to change the rotors, please tell me.

    thanks.Chevy Impala Front Brake Replacement?
take off the lid on the master cylinder, use a c-clamp to turn the calipers in, take out 2 long bolts ( probably a T-50 star socket ), pull the caliper off and then the rotor. if it,s a rear wheel drive you have to take the dust cap off the bearing, take off the bearing nut and bearing and off the rotor comes. make sure you clean the new rotors off with brake cleaner before you install them.Chevy Impala Front Brake Replacement?
The rotors don't need to come off to change the disc brake pads.Remove master cylinder cover. remove calipers, remove old pads. Install new pads, open up the space between them using a C clamp and reinstall calipers.

    4 Wheel disc brake service?

First of all, my car is 1990 Mazda Miata MX-5

And I also live in so california in la mirada around border line of orange county.

And I plan to diagnose my braking system cause i think my brakes arn't wearing out evenly when i look into my tire rims. I think i'll also need a brake oil flush too but im not too sure.

But I want to also know if there are any other cheaper shops that does a good job on brakes.

And once again, How much would my brake service cost on average with 2 rotors replaced with all 4 brake pads?

A lot of shops (WANT) to replace pads, rotors, calipers even if some are not in bad shape, their reason is if you replace all you will brakes like the day it was made. Watch out for these outfits, get a second opinion.Front brake on 03 hyundai tiburon?
you need to find a female mechanic in your area, it shouldn't cost that much to slap some pads on it, and to resurface your rotors,Front brake on 03 hyundai tiburon?
Get another opinion. Ask how thick the lining is - usually they start about 12mm and time for new when they get to 3-5mm.

I guess it would cost about 90 labor (1 hr)- depending on your area and maybe 80-160 in parts.

How can you tell when it's time to replace the rotors?

when your brakes don't last. How can you tell when it%26039;s time to replace the rotors?
Ask your mechanic or the guy in the machine shop to measure it for you. He should know if it's within safety standards. Check if it's bent out of shape, etc. All these depend on your driving habits, the type of car and the quality of your rotors and pads. If you have a muscle car and like to break hard, or if you drive a lot on mountain roads, it's a good investment to buy decent quality, heavy duty, vented rotors and matching pads.

The life you save maybe my own....How can you tell when it%26039;s time to replace the rotors?
Most manufacturers put out a minimum thickness for the rotors check that or go to a reputable aftermarket brand and they will also tell you the minimum thickness

To measure get some inside calipers (vernier preferably) to measure the thickness of the rotor at a number of pointsHow can you tell when it%26039;s time to replace the rotors?
Some rotors can be resurfaced and it is cheaper. Most brake shops prefer you buy rotors because there is a money factor and time involved.

The cost of resurfacing a rotor is around $15.00 each. Rotors on some cars are as little as 25.00 each. Is that price difference worth safety? In most cases the rotor has to come off of the car to be turned. There would be no change in labor to turn or replace. It actually takes longer to have your rotors turned. New ones are ready out of the box after cleaning them. Turning them takes 20 min. to a half hour each. Not good if your shop charges by time on the rack. At my shop, I prefer you buy new rotors because it is safer and the job is done right, the first time.

Hardly ever, unless the brake pads wear down to metal and damage it.Take it to a parts store and have them measure the thickness.

You must not forget about heat. There is a lot of friction on the brakes after all, that is how they stop the car. One job of the rotors is to dissipate heat.

Heat warps the rotors and also causes hard spots. Warped rotors will cause a pulsation in the brakes when they are applied. Rust is also a factor in replacing rotors. I have seen too many to count that have been rusted. I recommend every time you change pads or every other time at least. I know there is some expense there but, ask your self what is the cost of not stopping when you need to. How can you tell when it%26039;s time to replace the rotors?
it depends on how much they took off of them the first time they were turned. i believe i would just get onesHow can you tell when it%26039;s time to replace the rotors?
typically i would leave the rotors alone unless i feel 'shaking' in the steering wheel when I'm braking. Depending on the type of vehicle and how bad the rotors were initially the first time you had them turned, i would say that it is safe to have them turned twice. Also whoever turns them for you should measure them and let you know if they are safe to turn. Hope this helps

How much do front brake pads & rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?

    Hello,

Yesterday my car started grinding when I was braking... I knew my pads were low and I drove on it for about a day. The grinding got worse as I knew there was no pad left and it was now metal on metal. I took my car into Speedy Auto and got it checked out. They showed me bare brake pads and grooves in my rotors from the grinding. They said the rotors had hot spots on them and wouldn't be able to be machined.... that they would have to change the rotors altogether. So I went ahead with the procedure and the bill turned out to be $341.00 for front brake pads and rotors. Is this a normal price for a procedure like this? Or did I get ripped off a bit here?

    Thanks for your time,

MitchHow much do front brake pads %26amp; rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?
That is a fair price. Could you have gotten it done at some hillbilly shop cheaper, of course. Speedy is national chain shop and you got a good warranty. How much do front brake pads %26amp; rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?
That is a fairly reasonable price. Depending on where in the country you are, and how good of quality parts they used. A repair like that on a Toyota should be between $275-400 depending on the parts used. Your right in the middle, so not bad. At the dealer we get around $425 for Toyota original parts. They most likely used aftermarket parts thus the discount. Doesn't mean the parts are any less quality though as some aftermarket brakes are better then the factory ones. How much do front brake pads %26amp; rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?
they got you a little bit on this one, normal cost on doing that one should have been around 250 bucks total, but you paid their cost on the mark up for the parts also so that's about right for a shop, they mark the parts up ,but it could have been done a lot cheaper than this, considering replacing everything was lot easier of a job, good luck. How much do front brake pads %26amp; rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?
over half the cost was labor, parts probably didn't cost them much over $120.How much do front brake pads %26amp; rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?
yes id have to agree, you got the typical markup for getting it done at a shop they usually can double the price for parts at the minimum. when doing my own Camry i get large box sets of pads that would work out to be 15-20 dollars to put pads on the front tires. but just buying them for two wheels can be 25-40 depending on name brand or just like the general Napa brand which is fine. the rotors range from 40-60 for each all purpose rotor. that's why its a good idea to change or at least check the brakes when they start to squeal. that's the wear bar rubbing on the rotor to let you know. you normally don't want to let the pads get any more worn down than having 1/16th inch left of pad. they are very simple to change just get a manual online for ten bucks. takes about 15 min a wheel and save you hundreds of dollars.

Between the two of us it took less than 20 min to change the brakes and add just a little longer for the rotor. It took us about another 30 min to change the rotors but we did not have the proper tools. The added time was mostly spent finding tools. At a mechanic, who should have great tools, I don't expect that they would take more than an hour. If it's only one person doing the job, give them an extra 30 min or so. Changing brake pads pulling off caliper?

when ever i try to change brake pads its either hit or miss....

sometimes when i pull off caliper the pistons and worn pads are pushed to the rotor making it impossible to slide in the new pads....

please note that i dont want to use a method that would break any seal around piston

how do i push em back or prepare my car for the maintenance?Changing brake pads pulling off caliper?
Use a C-clamp and press on the old brake pad ( pushes the piston back )

you first MUST remove the 2 caliper bolts and pull the caliper off the rotor. You do not have to remove the brake line though... Just try to balance the caliper on top of the rotor while working with it to push the piston back.. No brake bleeding required this wayChanging brake pads pulling off caliper?
In an automotive garage they usually have a tool for pushing the caliper pistons back into the caliper. It looks like a backwards pliers that pushes out with two plates on each side. This essentially pushes both sides of the caliper back in easily. You could try to find one of these or you can use channel locks to push the calipers back in a little at a time. Vise Grips will also work great if you have these tools. If not you can always try to use anything like a screwdriver or something like that to simply push the calipers back in.Changing brake pads pulling off caliper?
I usually pry open the caliper a little with a big screw driver to release some of the pressure and then the caliper and pads come right off. Open the break fluid container in the engine compartment and get ready to soak up the overflow.

It is very hard to take them off if you do not release some of the pressure.Changing brake pads pulling off caliper?
I use a 6 inch c-clamp. Leave one of the old pads in the Caliber against the piston and Tighten slowly, and do not be alarmed with fluid that might over flow from the master cylinder.Changing brake pads pulling off caliper?
you use a c-clamp to push the piston back into its bore so the new pads will go over the rotor.you won,t break the seal. the seal is up inside the piston. what you see on the outside is the dust boot.

You will need to remove the brake calibers, the rotor will just fall off. If you have the 4x4 you will need to get yourself a Chilton repair manual and follow the instructions carefully. There are steps that you must follow to get to the rotor.

I cut through one brake rotor...?

So yeah. The guy who had this car before me apparently replaced 3 out of 4 rotors when he got the brakes changed(don't ask me why, ive wondered about this for weeks). Anyway, for a while that one rear brake rotor would just make the grinding noise consistent with a warped rotor, and today well. today after a *clunk* my brakes came back up to standard pressure, and the noise ceased. I pulled over, had a look, and lo and behold... no more disc part of the rotor, just the hub. I suspect im in danger of losing fluid, but since the pads on there are fine theyre just squeezing a hunk of the rotor. whats the prognosis? it stops better than it did before, can I just cap the brake line till i have the extra funds to replace that rotor?(spare me the lecture about how i should have done it before, you don't know my financials. ps, its an uncommon luxury car so each rotor is over 100 USD just to buy).I cut through one brake rotor...?

well, you should be fine, but that is a common rotor price, and if you have a luxury car be prepared to pay luxury prices, also should be able to do the work your self, it is relatively simple. If you can change a tire you can change a rotor.I cut through one brake rotor...?
if it is on a front wheel i would say to replace it. your car will jerk to the side that has the brake when you apply it. most of your breaking power comes from your front breaks too. i think capping the line would be fine til you get it fixed.I cut through one brake rotor...?
    No don't drive it.

You will cause more damage to the break system and just rack up a larger bill.

Park it until you can fix it.I cut through one brake rotor...?
well if it is a new ish car you should be working on at least split diagonal break lines which means if you loose fluid from one wheel you will have at least 2 that do work for example: the front right goes but you still have your front left and back right working...either way if it isn't affecting your controls/handling on the road when braking or just driving then it should be fine to use....just make sure you can get it to a garage (or do it yourself) as soon as possible to be on the safe sideI cut through one brake rotor...?
Okay, here is some advice for the future. If you can't afford expensive maintenance don't buy uncommon luxury cars. Two you should of fixed the problem when you heard it grinding. what probably happened was that the caliper on that rotor went bad and and started clamping down way to hard when you pushed the brakes. Thus, wearing out the brake pads and denigrating the rotor over time. That brake line can be disconnected and capped. Make sure the brakes are not engaged what so ever. Note make sure it doesn't engage when you pull the parking brake also. Most of the braking is done with your front brakes any ways, that is why your car leans forward when you hit the brakes. This is not an advise able fix and i strongly encourage you to fix the brake as soon as possible and sell the car. You need to buy some thing that you can afford to maintain. P.S. you do need to hear the lecture. suck it up, grow up and do better. Good Luck

  • How do you change the rotors on a 94 honda accord.?

I am looking to replace the brakes and the rotors on my 94 honda accord and need any help I can get.How do you change the rotors on a 94 honda accord.?
Honda rotors are bolted onto the hub, from the inside. You have to pull the cv shaft out of the hub end. The wheel bearing is a press fit. So you have to use a slide hammer to remove the hub from inside the bearing. Then you can unbolt the rotor and replace it. Then reinstall everything. I would suggest you take it to a shop and have it done.

Dealer will charge a bunch for this. The good news is that there's nothing special about these brakes, and any competent mechanic can change them. Use an independent and save a bunch of money.

I'm currently using Pagid pads and ATE rotors on my E320. I believe those are the stock brands, and they aren't expensive if you buy from independents. If you're buying parts yourself, don't forget to pick up new wear indicators. The other thing to remember is that the rear disks are different, depending on whether you have a sedan or wagon.I need new brake pads and/or rotors for my 2002 Benz E320,whats the best types and brands for pads and rotors?

How do you clear a low brake alert on my C230 kompressor sport sedan.?

I changed my brake pads and turned the rotors since they within spec. The brake wear message is still coming on the dash when I brake. how do I reset the alert to not come on until the pads are worn down again? How do you clear a low brake alert on my C230 kompressor sport sedan.?
I have the same car and do all my work myself. First you need to make sure a new brake sensor was installed when the pads were changed. It's a small wire that fits on the calliper on the front passenger side of the vehicle. To reset the dash light: Get in the car and close all the doors. Turn the key to the 2 position (on but before the engine starts). Scroll the screen to the %26quot;service%26quot; section. Hold the reset button (same button you'd use to reset the mileage meter) in for 10 seconds. Release it, then hold it in again for 3 seconds. If the brake sensor wasn't replaced, you can buy one online very cheaply (less than $5).How do you clear a low brake alert on my C230 kompressor sport sedan.?
Is it the emergency brake light coming on or brake pad wear indicator coming on. If its the brake pad wear indicator than the sensor is not properly installed at the brake pads or it is the other set of pads that are low.How do you clear a low brake alert on my C230 kompressor sport sedan.?
